“Alright boys, let’s move out,” Paul ordered us into the van. Liam and Zayn jumped into the back of the van and Louis went to go follow.

“That’s fine, you don’t have to sit next to be me,” I said, teasing him as Niall got into the middle. Louis smirked at me and patted my cheek.

“Hazza wants me to sit next to him,” Louis addressed the van. “Bless him.” I climbed in next to Niall and Louis climbed in after me. Paul closed the doors and got in front.

“Alright! Open the garage!” Paul ordered security. We watched in anticipation as the doors started to open and we could hear the screaming girls outside.

“Here we go boys,” Niall said laughing as he pulled out his phone to record. I looked back to watch Liam and Zayn already smiling and waving at the crowd of girls. The van slowly pulled out and the driver tried to wave the girls out the way. There were too many of them and we weren’t getting anywhere fast. Girls began to bang on the windows and I reached over Louis to bang back at them. All of us were laughing so hard and having a good time. Paul turned around.

“Boys buckle up please, this isn’t looking too good.”

All of us started groaning and mumbling but we knew that if Paul asked us to buckle up, then there was good reason to. Security managed to pull the girls away from the front of the van and the driver stepped on the gas and we shot forward. Louis’ phone flew out of his hand and onto the floor. The light was red so we began to slow down. Louis and I unbuckled our seat belts at the same time to reach and grab the phone. The light turned green.

“Thank god,” the driver said under his breath as he started to speed up again. As we started going through the intersection, I straightened up and looked to my right and saw a large truck speeding towards our van. The last thing I remember thinking was, “That shouldn’t be there” and then everything went black.

I woke up strapped to a gurney on the side of the road. I heard a lot of voices and I turned my head to look. I saw a messy mop of blond hair sitting in the back of an ambulance. Niall had his head in his hands. I could see his body shaking and I could hear him crying. I heard Zayn screaming and when I turned to look, I saw he was being held back by Paul and Liam. What was Zayn trying to get to? I looked over to the direction that Zayn was facing and saw a arm wearing a striped shirt hanging from where the van door was supposed to have been.

I felt like someone had hit me in the chest. “No,” I whispered. “No…no..NO..NO..LOUIS!” I screamed, fighting my restraints. Liam turned then and our eyes met. Tears were streaming down his face and he started to walk toward me. EMTs surrounded me and started pushing towards the ambulance. I screamed for Louis and choked on my sobs but no one made any attempt to quiet me. I watched Zayn crumple in Paul’s arms and Liam watched them take me away.

The doctors told me that I was extremely lucky to be alive and to only have suffered a couple of broken ribs and a broken arm. Lucky isn’t the word that I would have used. I hadn’t cried since the accident. In fact I hadn’t spoken since the accident. Liam, Niall and Zayn had come to visit of course and I couldn’t get any words out. They seemed to understand and they didn’t try to force me to talk. My family was more concerned than anything. My mom sat on a chair next to my hospital bed.

“I know you haven’t been able to mourn,” she started, her voice quivering. “I know we lost Louis, but I can’t lose you too. You’re here, you survived. Don’t leave us too.” I leaned back and closed my eyes, willing her to leave me alone. She did, just like everyone else I shut out. I didn’t want to hear their voices, I didn’t want any pity, I didn’t want anything but my best friend back.

The funeral service was light-hearted which is what his family figured he would want. I stood there with my arm in a sling staring at the shiny, black box that was supposed to hold my best friend. I stood next to my family. My mom had suggested that I stand with Zayn, Liam and Niall but I hadn’t spoken to them since the day of the accident. Niall was openly sobbing, his cheeks and eyes were bright red as he buried his face into Liam’s shoulder. Liam had large bags under his eyes and his eyes looked empty. Zayn stood slouched with his hands in his pockets, his eyes really dark and hard. He looked up at me and narrowed his eyes. I quickly looked away and found myself staring at the box again. I turned instead to his family. His sisters all stood holding each other’s hands, all of them crying. Jay stood tall, trying to keep her face void of emotion. I listened to the priest talk about how well liked Louis was and how he would be truly missed. Anger welled in me for this stupid man who had no idea who Louis was or what he meant to everyone, what he meant to me. I resisted the urge to run away but when the time came to lower the coffin, I couldn’t stop myself from turning and running. I refused to watch them take my friend and put him in the ground, the last place he deserved to be.

Paul sat in front of us in the office of his house, with his hands clasped together in his lap. I hadn’t wanted to come but my mom forced me out of the house and told me that the least I could do was make an effort and listen to what they had to say.

“I think we should do one final performance…and let it be done,” he started. I watched Liam, Niall and Zayn nod in agreement but all I could do was stare at them in horror. They wanted to end it all. I think I was so against it because I still hadn’t fully accepted the fact that Louis was gone and he wasn’t coming back. They looked at me to see my reaction. I shook my head slowly.

“Why not Harry?” Liam asked genuinely confused. “We owe it to the fans, don’t you think?”

I stared at him with my mouth open, saying nothing. Niall shook his head in disgust.

“You’re pathetic,” Zayn spit out, speaking for the first time that day. I whipped my head in his direction.

“You heard me. You’re pathetic. WHY WON’T YOU SAY ANYTHING? DO YOU REALLY THINK YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE WHO’S UPSET? THE ONLY ONE WHO CARES THAT HE’S DEAD?” Zayn shouted. Tears began spilling out of his eyes. “IT’S YOUR FAULT HE’S GONE! IT’S YOUR FAULT HARRY!” Zayn finally broke and sobs wracked his body. After several moments of silence, I opened my mouth to speak for the first time in weeks.

“You think I don’t know that?”

Everyone’s heads turned up towards me.

“You don’t think I think about that every day? You don’t think I’m haunted by that day? That if I had only let him sit in the back of the van that he would be here? You don’t think that I wish it was me that had died?” Tears were running down my face. I was finally able to cry. “I know it’s my fault. I KNOW!” My head fell into my hands and I cried harder than I’ve ever cried before.

Zayn stood up and wrapped his arms around me and we held each other. I felt other arms surrounding me too and soon the four of us were holding each other, keeping us together like we always have.

We stood in the wings of the arena waiting for the tribute video to start. Unlike most concerts, the arena was mostly silent, just some quiet chatter and some crying rather than the screams of fans that we were so used to. I heard the video start up, a montage of Louis’ best moments and I heard the audience openly sobbing. I closed my eyes and fought back the feeling in my stomach, the one that threatened to open me up and swallow me whole. The four of us walked out onto the stage for the last time and began to sing Valerie. The audience listened respectfully and tearfully as we went through Moments and Torn. We sang Look After You by The Fray, followed by Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T’s. We finished with It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday by Boys II Men.

Liam stepped forward and opened his mouth to start singing.

“How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad.”

Niall stepped up to next to Liam.

“I thought we’d get to see forever
But forever’s gone away
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.”

I looked out into the audience and watched people openly sob for our brother that we had lost. I looked out and found Eleanor and his family and my heart broke for what felt like the thousandth time in weeks. Tears fell down my face as Zayn stepped up on the other side of the stage.

“I don’t know where this road
Is going to lead
All I know is where we’ve been
And what we’ve been through.

If we get to see tomorrow
I hope it’s worth all the wait
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.”

I stepped in between Liam and Zayn and made no effort to stop crying. My voice shook as I held up the mic and sang out to the audience of dedicated fans.

“And I’ll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

And I’ll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.”

As my last note rang out, I stood there, tears pouring down my face. The boys came up to me and together we hugged each other having finished our last performance together. The audience began to clap and cheer louder than they’ve ever cheered before. I felt a squeeze on my shoulder and I turned my head a saw a flash of stripes and red. I whipped around and saw nothing there but the feeling in my stomach was washing away and I felt that Louis was with us. I knew that he was with us and everything was going to be okay.

youmakemyheart-race:

Allison sat in the boat, looking out into the ocean. Her long brown hair whipped across her face as she turned to watch her boyfriend Liam. He looked up from the wheel and smiled at her.

“We’ll be there soon,” he yelled over the roar of the boat. “Five minutes.”

Her excitement grew as the island got closer. They had been planning this trip for weeks. They would take Liam’s uncle’s boat to this small island about 30 miles off the coast and then they would spend the day kayaking and exploring the island. Allison brought a cooler full of food and drinks. Today was going to be absolutely perfect. Liam stopped the boat and began to lower the anchor as Allison grabbed the life jackets. She put on her life jacket and then helped Liam lower the kayaks into the water. She handed him the cooler to put in his kayak and then Allison got into her own. She grabbed her paddle and started rowing as fast as she could away from the boat.

“Race you to shore!” she said. Liam grinned and started paddling furiously toward shore. They were neck and neck but at the last minute Liam slowed and let her win. They laughed together as they dragged the kayaks onto the sand.

Walking around the island, they spotted a path leading deeper into the trees. They followed the path hand in hand and finally reached a clearing. A waterfall flowed loudly into a small body of water and surrounding the water were hundreds of flowers.

“I think we should go swimming,” Liam whispered into her ear.

“I left my bathing suit on the boat,” she replied.

“I won’t look,” Liam said, putting his hands over his eyes. Allison laughed loudly and waited a couple of seconds to make sure he wasn’t looking, not that she would mind. She slipped off her shorts and noticed that Liam had already started peeking through his fingers. She smiled and shook her head, pulling her shirt off. She walked to the water in her bra and underwear and dipped a toe in. She shivered.

“It’s freezing!” she said, turning to face Liam. He had taken off his shirt, leaving him in his board shorts.

He stepped in the water and nodded his head. “It is cold…but you know the best way to handle a situation like this?” he said stepping in front of her.

“What’s that?” she said smirking as his eyes bore into hers. He smiled suddenly.

“By jumping in!” he said grabbing her around the waist. Allison started screaming as Liam carried her into the water. She struggled against him but Liam held onto her firmly, laughing the entire way in. He sank them both into the water and Allison let out a blood curdling scream.

“I hate you,” Allison gasped as she wiped the water from her eyes and hugged herself, trying to keep warm. Liam moved towards her and held her close.

“Forgive me, Mama Direction?” he asked with a smile in his voice. Allison rolled her eyes.

“I can never stay mad at you,” she replied hugging him back.

They spent the next hour or so swimming and talking about the new album that Liam and the boys would be working on after summer ended. They grabbed their stuff and left the clearing, walking back towards the beach but still on the other side of the island as the boat. The set up the food on a small blanket and started to eat. Allison looked up from her pudding and saw Liam wrinkling his nose at her.

“Would you like to taste?” Allison grinned, offering Liam a spoonful of pudding. Liam shuffled backwards on his butt.

“Keep your evil silverware away from me,” he said as he ate a forkful of applesauce.

When they finished eating, Allison looked up at the sky and noticed it had gotten really dark.

“Maybe we should go back,” Allison said worried. Liam nodded, took hold of her hand and they both began to jog back to their kayaks. The sky was almost black now and it was starting to get windy. They pushed their kayaks into the water and jumped in. It began to rain halfway to the boat. Allison’s arms were so sore. The wind and the waves were making it extremely difficult to paddle and her energy was draining fast. In the corner of her eye she saw a huge wave approaching. Before she could shout a warning, the wave hit Liam’s kayak full force. Her screams were drowned out by the wind. Another wave came and hit her kayak so hard that it flipped. She struggled upside down, inside the kayak and she desperately tried to push herself out but she couldn’t. Just when she thought she was going to drown, a strong pair of arms grabbed her and pulled her from the kayak. Liam pulled her above the water and began to drag her to the boat. After what seemed like an eternity, they reached the wildly rocking boat. Liam pushed Allison up on the boat. She turned around to pull Liam up but he was gone. She frantically scanned the water but he was nowhere to be found. Suddenly, the boat pitched violently forward and she was thrown backwards. She felt pain in her head and everything faded to black.

She woke to the sound of seagulls and the gentle lapping of water on the side of the boat. She touched the back of her head and winced as a jolt of pain ran through her. She looked at her hand and watched her warm blood drip off her fingers. Fighting back waves of nausea, she carefully stood up. There was seaweed and driftwood strewn across the deck. The events of the previous day came rushing back to her. She tried calling for Liam but nothing would come out of her mouth. Sinking to the floor, Allison closed her eyes.

It must have been moments but it felt like hours when Allison finally opened her eyes and sat up. Her head was throbbing and she felt very dizzy. Scanning the boat quickly, she began to throw the driftwood from the boat floor, into the water. Hidden underneath some seaweed, she found a compartment built into the floor. Inside was a large box which she quickly pulled out. Opening it, she found a small first aid kit, rope, several walkie-talkies, a raft and two extra paddles. Allison pulled out one of the walkie-talkies.

“Hello! Come in please!”

“Allison? We’ve been trying to get in touch with you. Are you kids alright?” Liam’s uncle asked quickly.

“I can’t find Liam,” Allison said, trying to hold back tears.

The line went quiet before he came back on. “Don’t worry, we’ll find him. We’re on our way.”

Allison dropped the walkie-talkie and turned to the ocean. She scanned for a couple of minutes before spotting something orange in the distance. Thinking it could be one of the kayaks she quickly grabbed the raft and threw it onto the water where it instantly inflated. Grabbing one of the paddles and the bundle of rope, she lowered herself into the raft and began paddling towards the orange dot in the distance. After a while, Allison finally was able to see the kayak clearly. It was right side up, rocking gently with the waves and she spotted a leg hanging off the side.

“Oh god,” Allison whimpered. She slowed down her paddling and pulled over to the side. Liam lay inside the kayak face up with his eyes closed. She leaned into the kayak and brushed his hair out of his eyes. He didn’t stir. She quickly took the rope and tied one end to the raft and the other to the front of the kayak. She began to paddle back to the boat. It took forever and her hands were starting to bleed from gripping the paddle so hard. She felt a dull throbbing on her head and she was having trouble concentrating. Keep going, she repeated over and over to herself.

Allison finally made it to the side of the boat, gasping for air. She turned and crawled across the raft and looked into the kayak.

“Liam? Babe, wake up,” she said shaking him. Liam’s eyes opened slowly, not focusing on Allison at first and he tried to sit up quickly.

“It’s okay. You’re okay,” she said laying him back down. He reached up and ran his fingers through her hair.

“You came for me,” he smiled weakly. She nodded, a tear running down her cheek. He brushed it away gently. She reached down and put her arms around him and he hugged her back as best as he could. Allison heard the sound of a boat rapidly approaching and a voice yelling out, “We’ve got them!”

“I love you Allison,” Liam whispered to her. “Thank you.”

Allison sat up and looked down into the deep brown eyes of the boy who saved her life, the boy who loved her endlessly and the boy she knew she would spend the rest of her life with.

“I love you too, Liam.”

Om-nom-niam chapter 13

harrys-gemini:

Zayn, Louis, and Harry did their songs and the boys finished off with an emotional performance of moments. They were ushered off stage to get ready for the meet and greet later. Louis decided not to wear regular trousers so he arrived in checkered pajama bottoms with a tank top and Ugg boots. Nothing out of the ordinary, honestly.
